Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is a housing scheme launched by the government in order to help citizens living in urban areas buy or construct a house. The scheme was launched in 2015 with the aim of providing affordable housing to all eligible beneficiaries by 2022.
If you are planning to buy a house, then read this article to understand how PMAY can help you.
Not many can afford to buy a house from savings alone. Furthermore, due to the exorbitant costs of homes, people living in cities can find it extremely difficult to finance a house purchase. Therefore, in order to provide financial help to home buyers, the government announced Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries can avail interest subsidy benefit on the home loan amount. The interest subsidy is processed via two central nodal agencies- Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) and National Housing Bank (NHB). These bodies channelize interest subsidy to the banks. Then the banks assist beneficiaries to avail interest subsidy.
